Kate completed her undergraduate studies at McGill University in Montreal and returned home to Kingston in 2007 to complete her law degree at Queen’s University. She joined Nelson Law as an articling student in 2010, and remained at the firm after being called to the bar in 2011. Since such time, she has focused primarily on civil litigation and estate matters. In September 2019 she partnered with Lulama M. Kotze and opened Nelson Kotze LLP.

In addition to her legal practice, Katherine also presides over Small Claims Court matters after having been appointed as a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court in the Spring of 2024.
